Arunachal’s Pungni Tara Secures Gold at National School Games

Pungni Tara, a talented Class 11 student from G Sector, Naharlagun’s government secondary school (GSS), claimed a gold medal on the opening day of the National School Games Weightlifting event held in Delhi on Thursday.

In the 45 kg bodyweight category, Tara demonstrated exceptional strength by lifting 52 kgs in snatch and 68 kgs in clean & jerk, resulting in a remarkable total of 120 kgs.

The achievements for Arunachal Pradesh did not stop there, as the state amassed a total of four medals on the same day. Sime Tara and Pipi Yangfo showcased their skills by clinching silver medals in their respective weight categories.

Sime Tara, a Class 12 student from GHSS Kangkar Nallah, Naharlagun, competed in the 55 kg category and demonstrated commendable performance by lifting a combined weight of 191 kgs (81 kgs in snatch and 110 kgs in clean & jerk).

Yangfo, on the other hand, participating in the 59 kg category, showcased her prowess by lifting 65 kgs in snatch and 82 kgs in clean & jerk, attaining a total weight of 147 kgs. Yangfo is a Class 12 student from GHSS Ganga village, Itanagar.

Adding to the glory, Messang Marga, a Class 12 student from GSS G Sector, Naharlagun, secured a bronze medal by lifting a total weight of 119 kgs (51 kgs in snatch and 68 kgs in clean & jerk) in the below 49 kg category.

The impressive performances by these young athletes reflect their dedication and talent in the field of weightlifting.
