Russia posts record current account surplus of $227 bln in 2022

According to the central bank, Russia’s current account surplus achieved an all-time high in 2022, thanks to a decline in imports and strong oil and gas exports.

Despite sanctions and isolation attempts by Western countries, the inflow of foreign money remained robust, with the current account reaching $227.4 billion, an 86% increase from the previous year.
